Craftsmanship and sustainability, the matterica jewelry boxing
In matterica , details are a very important part of our identity. We like to think about each of them individually. We do it with all our creations from start to finish, therefore, our packaging was not going to be any less.
From the beginning we were very clear that our boxes had to be aligned with our philosophy of craftsmanship and sustainability. We know the environmental and social impact of each component we use in the creation of our pieces. Its “packaging” is also part of it, which is why we decided to take our philosophy of commitment to sustainability and support for local craftsmanship to the packaging that accompanies our jewelry.
What is the aesthetic and ethics of your packaging?
They are simple boxes made from transformed or recycled cardboard, without additional treatments. They are also assembled with staples to avoid the use of glue. The honesty of the material is visible and palpable.
We want our jewelry to reach customers safely, but without artifice. The packaging is important, we are aware, that is why we try to achieve a balance between customer expectations and our objectives of low environmental and human impact. We avoid superfluous materials and elements that we feel do not add value to either the jewelry or our customers.
Which artisans are behind your packaging?
Álvaro Vila is the craftsman who makes our boxes one by one. It comes from a tradition of artisanal box and packaging production in Valencia since 1931.
To provide the distinctive brand we have another artist and craftsman, TONER RSK. A reference in graffiti painting in Valencia, it is dedicated to artisanal screen printing and oriented towards the production of artistic work. TONER is in charge of applying our brand to each box following the creation process of manual screen printing.
How do your customers receive a matterica jewel?
The first thing our customers see and touch is manila paper, as traditionally used in packaging or fashion to make patterns. It has a very pleasant texture, we use it to protect the box from scratches, etc.
Immediately afterwards they arrive at Álvaro and TONER's box, identified with our brand and origin, as well as the number with which we identify each piece of jewelry we make. Inside, the manila paper (multipurpose) cushions and protects the jewelry so that it does not move in the box during transport. Finally, the jewelry is wrapped in a small cotton bag. We allow us to adapt the inner packaging according to the jewel, in order to preserve its arrival in perfect conditions.
We also include a small technical sheet about the jewel object. And to top it off, we give the inside of the box a personal and sensory touch. Today we use boxes marked with our previous name, we are using them until they are exhausted (although there are few left).
For us, the important thing is to remain faithful to our philosophy, taking care of our jewelry and our environment.
